Teenshop Drives Success for Young Women

A real estate professional who specializes in property management and rehabilitation of distressed properties, Solomon Morris Davis serves as the CEO of Somoda Management, Inc., headquartered in the Los Angeles suburb of Torrance, California. He studied business at both Los Angeles Community College and Los Angeles Southwest College and real estate at the Lumbeau School of Real Estate. A community-oriented businessman, Solomon Morris Davis enthusiastically supports programs such as the Los Angeles branch of Teenshop.

Teenshop was founded in 1985 in Philadelphia as a church program to enrich the lives of young women of color. The series of workshops aims to instill and enhance life skills and help members prepare for college.

Teenshop’s founder, Elleanor Jean Hendley, is a former public school teacher and television reporter focused on education news. She was personally aware of the positive impact of extracurricular activities on the development of self-esteem in school-age children.

For several years, Teenshop remained a church program. In 1990, Ms. Hendley established an affiliated group. Today, there are five chapters: three in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; one in Camden, New Jersey; and one in Los Angeles, California.

Becoming an Ordained Minister with Universal Life Church

A manager at Carver Pacific LLC, Solomon Morris Davis is also the CEO of Somoda Management Inc., a real estate investment and management firm. Outside his business career, Solomon Morris Davis is an ordained minister with the Universal Life Church (ULC).

An ordained minister is able to officiate weddings, baptisms, blessings, and funerals. He or she can even open a church and start preaching. To become a ULC ordained minister, all a person has to do is apply online. Once ULC approves an application, the applicant becomes an ordained minister. The application is free and ordination is lifelong.

After ordainment, the minister can purchase an ordainment certificate or letter of good standing with the church. These are necessary when officiating weddings, as some state and county authorities verify ministers’ ordainment status during the wedding preparation phase.

The process is simple and legally valid. ULC is a nonprofit church recognized by the U.S. government. Because of this, the church is legally capable of conducting its ordination processes in accordance with its own church doctrines. So while ULC’s processes may not be as formal or time-consuming as those of other traditional churches, seminaries, or rabbinical schools, they are valid and ordainment by the church is upheld in states across the country.
