The Producers Is Still King at the Tonys

An accomplished real estate professional based in southern California, Solomon Morris Davis manages a number of properties through his positions as chief executive officer of Somoda Management, Inc., and managing partner with Solton Properties. Beyond his work in the real estate industry, Solomon Morris Davis enjoys attending Broadway shows.

A number of Broadway shows have achieved mainstream appeal while also receiving positive attention from critics and Broadway aficionados. That said, no production has enjoyed as much success at the Tony Awards as The Producers.

Created by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan, the musical tells the story of two men scheming to profit by producing an intentionally terrible musical. The production was a smash hit at the 2001 Tonys, winning a record-breaking 12 awards. Awards of note include Nathan Lane’s win for Best Actor in a Musical, Cady Huffman winning in the Feature Actress category, Susan Stroman for Direction of a Musical, and Brooks and Meehan for their work on the book.

In 2016, Lin Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton became the first production to rival The Producer’s historic haul, taking home 11 Tony Awards. South Pacific, meanwhile, has claimed 17 Tony Awards, though seven belong to a 2008 revival of the 1949 original. The Book of Mormon, by Robert Lopez, Trey Parker, and Matt Stone, has also claimed 10 Tony Awards.
