There are now fewer Americans exchanging wedding vows, yet there are sound reasons why marrying is a wise choice. From an economic perspective, it is cheaper to be married. According to the research journal, The Future of Children, jointly produced by The Brookings Institution and Princeton University in 2018, a couple living with a child have a yearly poverty threshold of $19,055 compared to two parents living separately who have a $28,633 poverty threshold. Things, such as being able to buy in volume and sharing duties and responsibilities, come into play.

The Future of Children journal also noted that unmarried couples who conceive a child have only a 20 percent probability of getting married by the time the child reaches 5 years of age. Thus, delaying marriage decreases the chance of the couple ever getting married and foregoing all the economic advantages of marriage.

A Center for Disease Control publication revealed that adults who are married have a higher probability of being insured than people who never married, separated, living together, or widowed.
